Equipment Checkout Policies
Patrons accept financial and legal responsibility when borrowing and using equipment from the School of Journalism & Communication. The individual on record as reserving the equipment is responsible for the timely return of any and all equipment and parts of equipment. Any damaged or missing equipment can result in the withholding of the grade for the course(s) in which the student is registered. There will also be a charge to that student’s account for the cost of repair or replacement of the damaged or missing item(s).

IML Gear
NOTE: The Immersive Media Lab is currently closed and reserved only for use by Photo Classes for the 24/25 School Year.
The Immersive Media Lab is the ideal room for using the SOJC’s virtual reality and augmented reality equipment.
In the IML there are four high-end gaming PC’s for use playing virutal reality experiences or in game development. These can be use in conjunction with the Oculus Rift S or Meta Quest 2 headsets for virtual reality experiences. Each computer can also be connected to one of the wall-mounted displays for group viewing and collaboration.

Allen Hall Room 304 PC Gaming Lab is open for drop in use to play video games using an Xbox Games Pass subscription and for VR use with the HTC Vive Pro. Please reach out to creativecentral@uoregon.edu if you have any questions about the space or would like assistance with VR.

Livestream/Video Conferencing Options
The SOJC has various options for livestreaming or video conferencing within Allen Hall.
For video conferences we have two Meeting Owls available for capturing video and audio in medium to large conference settings.
For livestreaming the SOJC has a dedicated Streaming Studio in Room 305 with access to computers, OBS, mics and greenscreen.

Virtual Storage
Any student enrolled in a Journalism class has access to the SOJC’s virtual storage server. This server can be access from any of the lab computers and also accessed from a student’s personal device like a laptop or desktop computer.
To access the server from the lab computer, navigate to sojc-files folder in the explorer and then to the Classes folder within.
To access the server from a personal laptop or desktop computer, you will need to first download Cisco AnyConnect Secure Client. Once installed please refer to this Service Portal article on the process to connect to the VPN. Put \\sojc-files.uoregon.edu into the file search bar, it will ask for your DuckID and password, then you should be able to access the Classes folder.
