Exhibitions

Be a Show-Off

We want your work on our walls!

Our building tells the story of who we are, where we’ve been, and where we’re going. Work with Creative Central to display your best work in Allen Hall and be part of that journey.

Here’s how it works:

  1. First, find a faculty champion who has agreed to support your exhibit.
  2. Next, fill out this short form: https://rb.gy/l8rzz

Our Exhibits Coordinator and Building Manager will follow up within two business days.

Competitions

Earn National Recognition for Your Work

Creative Central will help you enter your work into national media competitions.

If you produced what you think is award-worthy work for an SOJC course, project, or student group, come talk to us! Creative Central maintains a database of regional and national media competitions in the fields of journalism, advertising, public relations, and media research. We take care of payment and submitting your work for you.

Here’s how it works:

  1. First, find an instructor or faculty advisor to “champion” your work. A faculty champion is someone who agrees that your work is award-worthy and is willing to work with you to enter it into media competitions.
  2. Next fill out this form: https://rb.gy/9s9pj
  3. Or email SOJC competitions Coordinator Maya Lazaro at mlazaro@uoregon.edu and copy your faculty champion.

Why Care About Media Competitions?

  • If you win, you’ll have the knowledge that your work was ranked among the best.
  • Some competitions offer prize money or scholarship funding.
  • Awards look good to employers, as they indicate outstanding work. You can include awards you’ve won on your resume, cover letter, portfolio, and LinkedIn profile.
  • Competition judges are suusally industry professionals, creating an opportunity to network and get your name out there.
  • Many competitions share judges’ feedback and critique, allowing you to learn from experts.
  • You may be invited to attend an awards ceremony or conference if you win, which is another opportunity to network with industry pros and emerging talent from other universities.

Recent major wins: Wesley LaPointe (Journalism, ’22) placed first in the Hearst 2023 National Photojournalism Competition. LaPointe took home $10,000 in prize money, and the SOJC received a matching grant from Hearst.
