Exhibitions
Be a Show-Off
We want your work on our walls!
Our building tells the story of who we are, where we’ve been, and where we’re going. Work with Creative Central to display your best work in Allen Hall and be part of that journey.
Here’s how it works:
- First, find a faculty champion who has agreed to support your exhibit.
- Next, fill out this short form: https://rb.gy/l8rzz
Our Exhibits Coordinator and Building Manager will follow up within two business days.
Competitions
Earn National Recognition for Your Work
Creative Central will help you enter your work into state, regional, and national media competitions.
If you produced what you think is award-worthy work for an SOJC course, program, or student group, let’s chat! Creative Central maintains a database of regional and national media competitions in the fields of journalism, advertising, public relations, and media research. We will take care of payment* and submitting your work for you.
*If funding is available. Funding is not always guaranteed.
Here’s how it works:
- First, find an instructor or faculty advisor to “champion” your work. A faculty champion is someone who agrees that your work is award-worthy and is willing to work with you to enter it into media competitions.
- Next fill out this form: https://rb.gy/9s9pj
- Or email SOJC Competitions Coordinator Maya Lazaro at mlazaro@uoregon.edu and copy your faculty champion.
NOTE: If your instructor has made competing a course assignment, then your instructor is likely already in contact with Maya and you do not need to complete the above steps. Maya also reaches out to faculty throughout the year about competition deadlines so they can notify students.
Why Should I Compete?
- If you place or win, you’ll have the knowledge that your work was ranked among the best in the state, region, country, or even the world.
- Some competitions offer winners prize money, scholarship funding, fellowship or travel opportunities, or products such as cameras or professional lighting equipment.
- Awards look good to prospective employers. You can include awards you’ve won on your resume, cover letter, portfolio, and LinkedIn profile.
- Competition judges are often industry professionals–many of them top in their field. Competing gives your work exposure and gets your name out there before you graduate.
- Many competitions share judges’ feedback and critique so that you can learn from the experts and improve your craft.
- If you place or win, you may be invited to attend an awards ceremony or conference. This is a great opportunity to network with industry pros and emerging talent from other universities.
- You’re putting in the time for your course assignments regardless. Why not apply that effort toward making something award-worthy? Even if you don’t win or end up competing, the experience will strengthen your work.
