Undergraduate Commencement Checklist

MANDATORY STEPS

MANDATORY FIRST STEP (NOW!): Apply for your degree.

  • DuckWeb => Student Menu => Undergraduate Graduation Application
  • Applying for your degree means you are telling the university, “I am done with all my classes and requirements. Please award my diploma.” You may obtain a degree in any term. A degree will not be awarded if your core education requirements and all declared major and minor requirements are not met.
  • Deadlines:
    • Spring 2024 degree: April 28th
    • Summer 2024 degree, and want to participate in the SOJC ceremony: May 15th
    • Fall 2024 degree, and want to participate in the SOJC ceremony: May 15th
  • Want to confirm you’ve applied for your degree?
    • DuckWeb => Student Menu => View Degree Application Status
  • Accidentally applied for the wrong degree term?
    • Fill out the “Request Change to Graduation Application” on this page to retract your degree application.
    • Once the original application has been retracted/cancelled, fill out the application again for the accurate degree term. DuckWeb => Student Menu => Undergraduate Graduation Application

MANDATORY SECOND STEP BETWEEN MAY 1st-20th: Confirm your participation in the SOJC ceremony.

  • In May, watch for an email from Marching Order inviting you to complete the registration process for the SOJC ceremony. The first batch of these emails will go out on May 1st.
  • Click on the link in the email to set up your profile. The information collected by Marching Order (name, degree type, etc.) will be displayed on the arena screen as you walk across the platform.
  • This step is mandatory. If you don’t do this, we won’t be able to project your information on the arena screen.

OPTIONAL (BUT HIGHLY RECOMMENDED) STEPS

By May 3rd: Nominate an SOJC faculty member for a teaching award

  • Is there a professor or instructor you’d like to nominate for the Jonathan Marshall Award for Innovative Teaching? This award is given annually to an SOJC faculty member who helps students gain new insights and strengthen their professional skills.
  • Use this form to submit your nomination.

By May 20th: Check how your name will be listed in the printed SOJC commencement program.

  • The printed SOJC program will be distributed at the event.

By June 17: Complete the senior exit survey

  • Instructions will be emailed to you in May.

By June 17: Purchase regalia.

  • This is optional. The Duck Store is your one-stop for all commencement “swag.” (Cap, gown, announcements, diploma frames, etc.).
  • Regalia packages are available for order now, and will be available through commencement in June.
  • If the cost of regalia (cap, gown, tassel) is prohibitive, please email us by May 31. We have a limited supply of donated robes in our “commencement lending library.”

AFTER THE CEREMONY:

Donate your used robe.

  • This is optional. If you no longer have a use for your green commencement robe, consider donating it to SOJC’s robe lending library.
  • A donation box will be located outside 134 Allen Hall throughout the summer. Donated robes are professionally laundered and stored for a future graduate to borrow, if the cost of purchasing a robe is prohibitive.
  • Only robes are needed. Future graduates are furnished with a brand new mortarboard and tassel.

View/order professional pictures.

  • Professional pictures were taken during the event by a non-UO vendor, Grad Images.
  • Students will receive an email (send to their uoregon.edu accounts) when photos from the event are available to view and purchase.
