Undergraduate Minors

UO has 70+ minors to choose from and students are encouraged to explore their options early.

The SOJC offers three undergraduate minors:

Game Studies

  • Open to all UO students with a 2.00 or higher cumulative UO GPA.
  • Provides an understanding of how to communicate and understand the culture of gaming. It is not a game development minor
  • SOJC students under the Fall 2022 curriculum may not use this minor for their “non-SOJC minor” requirement.
  • SOJC students under the Fall 2024 curriculum may use this minor for their UO minor requirement. Only one course may be used for both the major and minor requirements.

Science Communication

  • Open to all UO students with a 2.00 or higher cumulative UO GPA.
  • Provides an undergraduate focus on the issues, skills and scholarship growing around the science of science communication.
  • SOJC students under the Fall 2022 curriculum may not use this minor for their “non-SOJC minor” requirement.
  • SOJC students under the Fall 2024 curriculum may use this minor for their UO minor requirement. Only one course may be used for both the major and minor requirements.

Media Studies

  • Open to all UO students with a 2.00 or higher cumulative UO GPA. Some restrictions are noted below.
  • Provides an overview of mass communication.
  • SOJC students under the Fall 2022 curriculum may not use this minor for their “non-SOJC minor” requirement.
  • Advertising, journalism and public relations students under the Fall 2024 curriculum may use this minor for their UO minor requirement. Media studies majors may not. Only one course may be used for both the major and minor requirements.
